The Malesian species of Dalechampia (Euphorbiaceae)

نویسندگان

چکیده

Dalechampia is a mainly South American genus of generally climbing shrubs with usually sharp stiff trichomes in some the inflorescence parts. The bisexual inflorescences are very condensed and subtended by two, often showy, large bracts. three pistillate flowers separate from staminate subinflorescence (both groups their own bracts). contains staminodial-like bractlets that provide resin for female bees or fragrance male bees. In west Malesia (Sumatra Java) one indigenous species found, D. bidentata , occasionally cultivars subshrub spathulata .

Evolution of myrmecophytism in western Malesian Macaranga (Euphorbiaceae).

Plants inhabited by ants (myrmecophytes) have evolved in a diversity of tropical plant lineages. Macaranga includes approximately 300 paleotropical tree species; in western Malesia there are 26 myrmecophytic species that vary in morphological specializations for ant association. The origin and diversification of myrmecophytism in Macaranga was investigated using phylogenetic analyses of morphol...

Pollination ecology and circadian patterns of inflorescence opening of the Madagascan climber Dalechampia aff. bernieri (Euphorbiaceae)

Floral morphology often directly influences interactions with pollinators, but less is known about the role of extrafloral structures. We studied the relationship between bract motility, floral structural specialization and pollination in Dalechampia aff. bernieri, an endemic Madagascan species with floral structures indicating specialized buzz-pollination.Wemeasured circadian bract angles in 4...

Development of microsatellite markers for the neotropical vine Dalechampia scandens (Euphorbiaceae)1

UNLABELLED PREMISE OF THE STUDY Microsatellite markers were developed to assess polymorphism and level of genetic diversity in four Mexican populations of the neotropical vine Dalechampia scandens (Euphorbiaceae). • METHODS AND RESULTS Thirty-seven microsatellite markers representing bi-, tri-, tetra-, and pentanucleotide microsatellite repeats were developed. In total, 166 alleles were id...

Effects of crossing distance on offspring fitness and developmental stability in Dalechampia scandens (Euphorbiaceae).

Crosses between genetically close and distant populations of Dalechampia scandens (Euphorbiaceae) were made to test whether the responses of various fitness components and measurements of developmental stability were affected by the outcrossing distance (level of outbreeding). Two fecundity traits, seed set and seed mass, decreased consistently with increasing level of outbreeding, and hybrids ...

Signal honesty and cost of pollinator rewards in Dalechampia scandens (Euphorbiaceae).

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Most species of Dalechampia vines (Euphorbiaceae) attract bee pollinators with terpenoid resins secreted by a gland-like structure in the inflorescence. In some species, pollinating bees appear to preferentially visit inflorescences (blossoms) with large resin-producing glands, whereas in other species bees preferentially visit blossoms with large involucral bracts. In this ...
